SAN DIEGO – Former San Diego State lacrosse player Harlowe Steele (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada) was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll for the 2018-19 school year, the organization announced Wednesday. In addition, the Aztecs were one of 94 Division I teams recognized as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad.

With her award, Steele received IWLCA academic recognition for the second time in her career (2017, 2019)  after landing on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) all-academic team for the third consecutive year.

To be eligible for IWLCA academic consideration, individual candidates must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. In all, 509 student-athletes representing 100 NCAA Division I institutions earned spots on the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll this year.

One of three team captains, Steele finished her career as SDSU's all-time leader in games played (68) while ranking second in both goals (99) and draw controls (149), as well as fourth in shots (187) and ground balls (96).

The Coquitlam, British Columbia, native also became the Aztecs' single-season leader with 52 goals in 2019, tying her personal best with five in team's 18-15 triumph over Fresno State in the MPSF semifinals. For her efforts, Steele collected conference tournament MVP honors, helping the Scarlet and Black secure its second straight MPSF championship in her final year of eligibility.

Steele, who additionally merited all-league distinction for the second straight season and was named SDSU female student-athlete of the year in April, is completing her undergraduate degree in environmental engineering, boasting a 3.53 cumulative grade average.

Collectively, San Diego State was designated an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the fourth time in program history (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019) after recording a team GPA above the 3.0 prerequisite last year.

The Aztecs completed another successful season in 2018, tying a program-record with 11 wins, punctuated by their aforementioned second consecutive MPSF crown. In addition, SDSU garnered seven all-MPSF accolades to go with 14 conference player of the week awards.
