NEW ORLEANS – Freshmen Alysia Allen and Nyjari McNeil earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2018-19 track and field season.
Allen, a pole vaulter from Reno, Nev., finished her freshman season with a 3.58 cumulative GPA as a business major. She finished second at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships and then vaulted a career-best 13-04.25 at the NCAA West Outdoor Preliminary Round. She was recently named to the Mountain West All-Academic Team and received the conference's Scholar-Athlete Award.
McNeil (Reistertown, Md.) posted an impressive 3.89 cumulative GPA in her first year at SDSU as an exercise nutritional science major. She set four SDSU freshman records and helped the Aztecs win the 4x400m relay at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships. She ran the anchor leg of the 4x4 at the NCAA Championships, helping the Aztecs finish 11th in the nation and earned USTFCCCA Second-Team All-American honors. Like Allen, she recently received the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award in addition to being named to the conference's all-academic team.
In total, 902 female student-athletes earned All-Academic honors. To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
