TEMPE, Ariz. -- The San Diego State women's tennis team was honored as an ITA All-Academic team following the 2018-19 campaign, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today. It is the fifth consecutive year that the Aztecs have earned the prestigious award.

In order to be eligible for the ITA All-Academic Team award, a program must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale), and all varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019). SDSU began its streak of winning the ITA All-Academic Team award in 2014-15.

Additionally, Mia Smith and Shakhnoza Khatamova were named ITA Scholar-Athletes for their work in the classroom. The ITA Scholar-Athlete award goes out to players with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average over the course of the 2018-19 academic year.

Earlier this week, Smith and Khatamova were joined on the Mountain West All-Academic Team (3.00 cumulative GPA and starter or significant contributor) by Magda Aubets, Alicia Melosch, Abbie Mulberger, Agustina Rimoldi Godoy and Nnena Nadozie, while Khatamova became a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete (3.50 cumulative GPA with at least two academic terms) with Ellie Ashley.

The Aztecs made the 2019 Mountain West Championship before falling to UNLV.
