SAN DIEGO – Aztec men's soccer head coach Lev Kirshner has announced the signing Tristan Weber, a midfielder who comes to SDSU after one year at the University of Portland.
The San Clemente, Calif. native appeared in 15 matches with ten starts for the Pilots last season. He finished the year with three assists and nine shots (three on goal). He helped Portland advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
"We are very excited Tristan decided to move closer to home," Coach Kirshner said. "After recruiting him heavily out of high school, it seems the relationship we built went a long way in his decision. This is another example of an outstanding soccer player and person, not necessarily in that order, who can play multiple roles within our program. We look forward to the competition this August."
Weber (5'8, 155 lbs.) had a spectacular senior season at San Clemente High School, scoring 15 goals and dishing out 22 assists while leading the Tritons to the CIF Southern Section Division I semifinals. After the season, he was named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Year and the Gatorade California Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
Weber was high school teammates with incoming freshman Blake Bowen, who also took home the Gatorade California State Player of the Year award this past season.
From 2016-17, Weber was with the U-17 U.S. Men's National Team Residency Program where he was a team captain and helped them win a pair of ODP Regional IV Championships.
Weber, the No. 31 recruit in the nation in 2018, has also played the Orange County SC (USL), Orange County FC (NPSL) and the LA Galaxy Academy Team.
After Weber's signing, the Aztecs' 2019 recruiting class is ranked No. 10 in the nation and second in the Pac-12 by Top Drawer Soccer.
