SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's soccer head coach Lev Kirshner has revealed the Aztecs' schedule for the upcoming 2019 season. SDSU will have eight regular season matches against teams that reached the 2018 NCAA tournament and their season kicks off August 30 when they host crosstown foe San Diego.
The Aztecs will play a pair of friendlies before their regular season gets underway. First, an August 19th match at UC Irvine, who advanced to the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Then SDSU will have their preseason final tune-up August 24th at home against UC San Diego.
The 2019 season officially gets underway the following weekend when the Aztecs host San Diego August 30. SDSU beat USD 2-0 in Torero Stadium last season.
SDSU's first road match will be September 2 at UNLV, who the Aztecs knocked off 2-1 a year ago.
The Aztecs return to Montezuma Road for the 11th annual Courtyard Marriot San Diego Central Aztec Soccer Classic where they will host Belmont (Sept. 6) and Detroit Mercy (Sept. 8). SDSU won this tournament for the fifth time in program history last season with Pablo Pelaez being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player.
SDSU will then be on the road for the next five matches before returning home for five consecutive matches. They will kick off their lengthy road swing at Santa Clara on September 13. SDSU has faced the Broncos in each of the last two seasons with the home team winning both matches.
The following weekend the Aztecs will kick off Pac-12 play when they travel to the Pacific Northwest for games at Washington (Sept. 19) and Oregon State (Sept. 22). The Huskies and Beavers joined Stanford and UCLA as the Pac-12's representatives in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Next up for SDSU is a cross-country trip to face Brown University in Providence, R.I. The Aztecs defeated the Bears 2-0 at home last season.
The Aztecs will then return to Southern California and play at UCLA October 6 where SDSU won 1-0 in the 2018 season finale.
SDSU will begin their stretch of five straight home games October 10 when the host California. Three days later Stanford comes to town (Oct. 13). The Cardinal advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2018.
The Aztecs will take a week off from Pac-12 competition when they host Marshall October 18 and then return to conference play when Oregon State (Oct. 24) and Washington (Oct. 27) come to town. The October 27th match against the Huskies is part of a doubleheader with the SDSU women's team who play San Jose State prior to the men's match.
SDSU's final two road matches will be at Stanford (Oct. 31) and at California (Nov. 3).
The Aztecs will wrap up the 2019 regular season with home games against Nebraska-Omaha (Nov. 8) and UCLA (Nov. 16).
All road Pac-12 road matches will be broadcasted on the Pac-12 Network and the majority of SDSU's home games will be streamed on GoAztecs.com.
