CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – San Diego State women's golfer Daniela Anastasi was named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Scholar All-American Team for her excellence in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year.
The Aztec rising senior was among 1,096 collegiate golfers from Division I, II and III institutions to earn the academic honor from the WGCA, which maintains some of the most stringent criteria in all of intercollegiate athletics for selection to the prestigious group. In order to be considered for the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, candidates are required to retain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.
With her award, Anastasi gives the Scarlet and Black 10 WGCA Scholar All-Americans since Leslie Spalding assumed the head coaching reins prior to the 2011-12 campaign.
A native of La Jolla, Calif., Anastasi saw her first extensive action for the Aztecs after transferring from UC Davis in 2016, starting six tournaments, including the Mountain West Championship and NCAA Cle Elum (Wash.) Regional. She also made two appearances as an individual competitor, highlighted by a tie for the 23rd position at the UC Irvine Invitational, where she shot a season-best 5-over 221.
At the MW Championship, Anastasi had two rounds count toward SDSU's team score, helping the Aztecs secure their second conference title in the last five years. In addition, the La Jolla High alumna carded a career-low 70 during the final round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, as the Scarlet and Black placed third out of 16 schools in Albuquerque, N.M.
A two-time Mountain West scholar-athlete, Anastasi is majoring in interdisciplinary studies at SDSU.
San Diego State completed another successful season in 2018-19, netting its sixth consecutive regional appearance as a team and ninth in the last 10 years before finishing with a No. 46 national ranking by Golfstat.
