Marissa Moreno Named MW Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State's Marissa Moreno was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first league award for the Aztecs this season and the second of Moreno's career.
 
Moreno led SDSU to a series sweep of Fresno State over the weekend, the first time in program history that San Diego State swept the Bulldogs in a conference series.
 
For the weekend, Moreno was 2-0 with a save and a 0.00 ERA in 10 1/3 innings, striking out 11 against three walks. The junior right-hander limited a FS team that came into the series with a .310 average to just seven hits and a .179 average.
 
On Friday, Moreno tossed a complete game shutout in the Aztecs' 1-0 win, allowing four hits and three walks, while striking out eight. She got the save on Saturday after recording the final two outs, striking out one with no baserunners allowed in a 3-1 victory. On Sunday, Moreno recorded the win after pitching the final 2 2/3 innings, yielding two unearned runs on three hits and striking out two in a 4-2 triumph.
 
For the season, Moreno is 11-11 with four saves and a 3.15 ERA in 137 2/3 innings. She has seven complete games, four shutouts and 112 strikeouts, while limiting the opposition to a .235 average. In MW play, Moreno is 5-7 with three saves and a 3.06 ERA in 66 1/3 innings. She has struck out 54 in league play and held her opponents to a .224 average.
 
SDSU travels to Logan, Utah, to take on Utah State this weekend for games at 4 p.m. MT Thursday, 4 p.m. MT Friday and noon MT Saturday.
