COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –  San Diego State's Sander Gjoels-Andersen was named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for a series of impressive performances in three dual matches vs. Eastern Washington, Utah State and Boise State.

With his honor, the Aztec senior garnered the first career weekly accolade of his career and SDSU's third as a team this season.

A native of Klampenborg, Denmark, Gjoels-Andersen combined for an unblemished 6-0 record, posting three victories apiece at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles to help the Aztecs improve to 9-7 overall and 1-1 in the MW.

In SDSU's 7-0 whitewash of Eastern Washington on March 26, Gjoels-Andersen teamed with Ignacio Martinez to defeat the Eagles' Jeremy Field and Mikayel Khachatryan in doubles, 6-2, before pulling away for a victory over Field in a super-tiebreaker during the singles round, 3-6, 6-3, 10-0.

In a 4-2 setback at first-place Utah State on March 29, Gjoels-Andersen played a huge hand in the Aztecs' two team points against the Aggies, joining forces with Martinez to record a 6-3 decision over Isaac Arevalo Gomez and Jose Carvajal, before outlasting Arevalo Gomez in singles, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

To cap off his stellar week, Gjoels-Andersen was the first SDSU singles player off the court in the Aztecs' 4-0 blanking of Boise State on March 31, thanks to a 6-1, 6-1 conquest of the Broncos' Jack Heslin, who was an all-MW honoree in 2018. Earlier, he helped SDSU extend its season-long streak of four consecutive team doubles points earned, combining with Martinez once again for a 6-2 triumph over Boise's Wyatt DeMulling and Stefan Lalovic.

With his efforts, Gjoels-Andersen extended his winning streak to six matches in singles competition, including the last four at the No. 1 position, where he is 4-0 this spring. He also raised his record to 10-3 in dual matches, which surpassed his victory total for the entire 2017-18 campaign when he went 9-22. In addition, his 14 victories overall this year represent a single-season career high.

Not to be outdone, Gjoels-Andersen and Martinez have also combined to win four straight at No. 1 doubles.

Gjoels-Andersen and the Aztecs wrap up another lengthy homestand this weekend, April 5-7, when they play host to Fresno State, Santa Clara and Nevada on consecutive days. SDSU's match vs. the Bulldogs on Friday is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. PT, while clashes with the Broncos and Wolf Pack are set for noon starts on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.  Admission to all Aztec home tennis matches is free.
