SAN DIEGO – Ed Chang, who recently completed his freshman season on the San Diego State men's basketball team, has informed the coaching staff that he is leaving the program to pursue other basketball opportunities, head coach Brian Dutcher announced today.

"We appreciate the positive impact Ed had on the San Diego State program and will assist him as he looks to further his basketball career," Dutcher said. "Ed is a wonderful human being and I look forward to watching his success on and off the court."

Chang, a 6-8 forward from Papillion, Neb., played in 13 games and saw 53 minutes of action as a true freshman this past season. He scored 21 points and had nine rebounds and four assists during the 2018-19 campaign. All six of his made field goals came from three-point range.

"San Diego State is a great program and the coaching staff is tremendous," Chang said. "I feel like I am part of a brotherhood with my teammates. These are life-long friendships that I have made during the past year. I appreciate all of the fan support and I certainly felt the love from the SDSU community."

For the season, Chang averaged 1.6 points and 0.7 rebounds per game. In seven Mountain West games, the freshman averaged 1.7 points and 0.6 rebounds in 25 total minutes of action. He scored a career-high four points in the home victory over San Jose State on Mar. 2.
