SAN DIEGO – After five years as San Diego State swimming and diving's assistant coach, Stephen Allnutt has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, SDSU swimming and diving head coach Mike Shrader announced on Monday.

"Anything good that has happened to our team in the last five years Steve has been a huge part of," said Shrader. "He is incredibly smart, hard-working, loyal, and his technical knowledge of our sport is amazing. The good lord has really blessed me to work with Steve and I have learned a lot coaching with him. Our coaching chemistry together has been wonderful and our student-athletes as well our administrators and support staff love working with Steve."

Allnutt has been a part of a pair of Mountain West Championship teams, including both the 2014-15 team and this year's 2018-19 squad. In 2018-19, the Aztecs set 15 school records and four Mountain West all-time records while sending a trio of swimmers to the NCAA Championships, including Courtney Vincent, Morganne McKennan, and honorable mention all-American Klara Thormalm. The Aztecs scored the fourth most points among non-power-5 members at the NCAA Championships in March and ranked fifth among California programs, trailing only national champion Stanford, national runner-up Cal, 10th-place finisher USC, and 17th-place finisher UCLA.

In addition to 15 school records, the Aztecs recorded 33 individual and relay times in 2018-19 that rank among the program's top 10 all-time times. The Aztecs garnered 30 all-Mountain West honors after the team's championship run in February, split by 14 different individuals and four relay teams.

The Aztecs have finished inside the top three of the Mountain West Championships for 10 consecutive seasons and in 2018-19, the Aztecs recorded their fourth undefeated dual meet season in the last six years. Over Allnutt's five seasons at SDSU, the Aztecs are 61-2 in dual meet competition.

Allnutt, who also serves as the team's recruiting coordinator, came to the Mesa after a two-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Hawai'i. As a student-athlete at Hawai'i, Allnutt was a member of the 2011 Conference USA Championship team, where he finished in the top five of all three events that he competed in.

Allnutt, a native of Forest Grove, Oregon, is a 2011 graduate of Hawai'i with a bachelor's of science degree in kinesiology and exercise science. He received a master's degree in kinesiology from UH in 2014 as he completed his thesis on the biomechanics of swimming.
