SAN DIEGO – The No. 22 SDSU water polo team split their final two games of the Aztec Invitational on Saturday. They opened the day with a 7-6 loss to T-No. 17 Long Beach State and then rebounded to beat No. 24 Bucknell 12-8.
Against Long Beach, the Aztecs fell behind 7-4 late in the fourth quarter. They were able to rally to score two goals but came up just short. Hannah Carrillo and Shelby Kraft led the Aztecs with two goals apiece.
The Aztecs opened the second game with five first quarter goals, but also allowed Bucknell to score four. SDSU would score the first two goals of the second quarter to build their lead to 7-4 and then had a 3-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to put the game out of reach.
Sydney Hurst netted four goals and Emily Bennett and Haley Hagerty each scored two. Goalkeeper Maura Cantoni had nine saves.
