AUSTIN – The San Diego State swimming and diving team concluded action at the NCAA Championships on Saturday and finished in 38th after the conclusion of the four-day event.
SDSU finished with nine points in thanks to Klara Thormalm's consolation final win in the 100 breaststroke on Friday. SDSU's nine points are the fourth-most among non-power 5 institutions, trailing only Eastern Michigan (32nd, 17 points), Hawai'i (34th, 14 points), and Florida International (37th, 11 points).
The point total for the Aztecs also ranked fifth among California programs, trailing only national champion Stanford, national runner-up California, 10th-place finisher USC, and 17th-place finisher UCLA.
Both Thormalm and Morganne McKennan competed in the 200 breast preliminaries on Friday, with Thormalm finishing 38th at 2:11.25 and McKennan coming in 58th at 2:14.57. The time for Thormalm established a new personal best and ranks as the third fastest in Aztec history.
With the NCAA Championships completed, SDSU finishes a 2018-19 season where it won the 2019 Mountain West Championships, posted its 10th consecutive top-three finish at the Mountain West Championships, and went a perfect 13-0 in dual meets to give the Aztecs their fourth perfect dual meet season in the last six years.
