SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State recorded a season-high 18 hits and 13 runs in a 13-8 win over UIC at the San Diego Classic Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium.
 
A night after recording three hits in a 2-1 win over Brigham Young, the Aztecs (10-7) exploded for 18 in the win tonight over the Flames (3-9). UIC almost matched SDSU with 14 hits as the two teams combined for 32 hits, 21 runs, seven walks, six errors and 24 runners left on base in a game that lasted 2 hours and 54 minutes. Only nine of the 21 runs in the game were earned.
 
The key inning for San Diego State was the bottom of the fifth when it responded from a pinch-hit solo homer by Jasmine Willis in the top half with six runs on six hits and an error. The RBIs in the inning came on two-run singles by Kristen Parker and Katie Byrd, and a RBI single by Kelsey Munoz.
 
The Aztecs also scored three in the first, one in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth before being held scoreless for the lone time of the game in the sixth.
 
SDSU had at least one hit from nine of its 10 batters in the game, including multiple hits by seven different players.
 
A pair of freshmen in Maddi Ayers (2-for-3, 2B, R, 2 BB) and Kylee Fraser (2-for-3, RBI, 2 BB) reached base safely four times in the game, while Taylor Adams (3-for-4, RBI, 2 R) and Molly Sturdivant (3-for-5, RBI, 3 R) added three hits apiece. Parker (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 1 R), Munoz (2-for-5, RBI, R) and Kiera Wright (2-for-5, RBI, 2 R, SB) also recorded two hits.
 
Alicia Garcia picked up the win in the circle for San Diego State, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over 3 1/3 innings of relief. She struck out one and evened her record to 3-3 on the season.
 
MJ James started the game, yielding six runs (three earned) on seven hits, two walks and a hit batter over 3 2/3 innings, striking out one.
 
NOTE I
SDSU's 18 hits are tied for its fourth most in a game since at least 2006 and most since recording 20 vs. Oklahoma State on Feb. 24, 2017. San Diego State's batting average rose 20 percentage points from the start of the game (.244 to .264).
 
NOTE II
The Aztecs won their 18th consecutive game when leading after five innings (7-0 this season).
 
STAT OF THE DAY
SDSU won its 50th straight game when scoring at least 10 runs.
