LAS VEGAS – Sophia Ramos of the Aztec women's basketball team was named to the Mountain West all-tournament team following her performance in SDSU's run to the semifinals.
The freshman point guard had a team-high 16.7 points per game and was instrumental in the Aztecs' upset over No. 2 seed New Mexico in the quarterfinals. Against the Lobos, she scored 15 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying bucket with 2.6 seconds left.
Over SDSU's three games, she had just two total turnovers while averaging 37.7 minutes per game. She was 5-for-11 from three (.455), 5-for-6 from the free throw line and tied for the team-lead with 10 assists.
Sophia Ramos averaged 4.5 assists per game on the year, the most by an Aztec freshman since the 2006-07 season when Quenese Davis dished out 5.3 assists per game. She also became the first Aztec freshman to lead the team in scoring (13.9 ppg) since Aztec hall of famer Falisha Wright averaged 15.8 in the 1991-92 season.
Ramos was the first Aztec of any grade to lead the team in both points and assists since Quenese Davis (2006-07).
