NEW ORLEANS – San Diego State pole vaulter Bonnie Draxler was named the USTFCCCA West Region Field Athlete of the Year. Draxler (Wrightstown, Wisc.) has the top pole vault (14-10.00) mark in the region and the third best in the country.

Draxler won the Mountain West Indoor pole vault championship last weekend to become the first athlete (male or female) to win the title four times. She has been the top collegiate finisher in every meet during the indoor season.

She becomes the first Aztec to win this award since Shanieka Thomas (2013, 2014).

Draxler, who was on the Bowerman Midseason Watch List, will be competing in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 9. This will be her third time competing at nationals (2nd indoor).

The West region consists of California, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Arizona and Hawai'i. Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.
