San Diego State begins the second half of conference play on Saturday night by welcoming Utah State, the second-place team in the Mountain West standings, to Viejas Arena.
San Diego State has won 10 consecutive conference home games. That is the longest active streak in the league and tied for the 12th-longest streak nationally (see chart at the right).
The Aztecs and Aggies are meeting for the 14th time with SDSU owning a 10-3 series advantage. San Diego State has won the last 10 meetings between the teams and is 10-0 against Utah State since the Aggies joined the Mountain West.
SDSU's 10-game win streak against Utah State is the second longest active streak by any Mountain West team against a conference opponent (the longest is Colorado State's 15-game win streak against San José State).
San Diego State and Utah State have not met since Dec. 30, 2017. The Aztecs have played 25 conference games, including New Mexico five times, since its last meeting with Utah State.
San Diego State's three-game win streak was snapped Tuesday night in an 83-70 loss at New Mexico. The Aztecs, who led by as many as 11 points in the contest, led for more than 17 minutes, 30 seconds overall in the game.
Despite the loss, SDSU is still 3-1 in its last four games and 4-2 in its last six contests. Over the last six games, SDSU's scoring margin of +7.7 ranks third in the Mountain West (Utah State is second at +13.8 during that stretch).
Sophomore forward Jalen McDaniels continues his impressive play and has tied a career-high by reaching double figures in 11 straight games and has scored 20 or more points in consecutive games for the first time in his 55-game career.
Since Dec. 29, 2018 (which includes 11 games), Jalen McDaniels is averaging 20.4 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while shooting 54.2 percent from the field. He is the only player in the nation that is averaging 20-10-2 and is shooting at least 50 percent from the field during that time frame.
SDSU's defense continues to improve at a dramatic rate. The Aztecs, who earlier this season allowed four opponents in a six-game stretch to shoot above 50 percent, rank among the nation's elite in several defensive categories since Jan. 8, including 37th in field goal percentage difference, 41st in opponent two-point field goal percentage and 47th in opponent field goal percentage.
