WOODLAND, Calif. – San Diego State lacrosse midfielder Caitlin Jones was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Rookie of the Week on Monday for a pair of outstanding performances against No. 24 USC and Columbia. With her award, the Aztec freshman received her first career conference weekly honor and the team's second of the year.

A native of Carlsbad, Calif., Jones continued her phenomenal start to the season after finishing with six goals in two games vs. the Women of Troy and the Lions, with all six of her shots finding the back of the net this past weekend, including a 5-for-5 clip on free position attempts.

In a tough 20-16 setback to USC at home last Friday, Jones netted a career-high four goals, converting all three of her eight-meter shots. Two of her strikes came during an 8-2 run, as the Aztecs pulled to within 18-15 with six minutes to go in the game after trailing 16-6.

A La Costa Canyon High alumna, Jones also hit pay dirt with two additional free position goals while adding one ground ball and one draw control in SDSU's 16-7 triumph over Columbia on Sunday in Tempe, Ariz. Her second goal in that contest put the Aztecs up to stay 4-3 at the 10:03 mark of the first half, which ignited an 8-1 run and gave the Scarlet and Black some much-needed breathing room.

For the season, Jones tops all SDSU freshmen and ranks fourth on the team overall with eight goals to go with two ground balls, one assist and one draw control.

Jones and the Aztecs are idle until Tuesday, March 5, when they play host to Central Michigan to open a five-game homestand. Opening draw vs. the Chippewas is 3 p.m. PT and admission is free.
