Aztec Storylines
CLOSING OUT FEBRUARY: After co-hosting the Tony Gwynn Legacy, San Diego State closes its longest homestand of the season after hosting in-city foe San Diego Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. The Aztecs-Toreros contest will be streamed on the Mountain West Network and the first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free taco.

WE'RE OFF TO A GOOD START: With Tuesday's game being the final game of February for the Aztecs, SDSU has a chance to finish the month at 6-2, which would give SDSU their first February with a winning percentage of .750 or better since the 2015 team went 11-1 in February.

SERIES HISTORY: No strangers to each other, SDSU is 10-5 in its last 15 games against USD and 75-57-3 all-time against their crosstown counterpart. The two teams split a pair of midweek contests last year, with the away team winning each contest. USD beat SDSU 3-2 in 10 innings in the first meeting last year, but the Aztecs ended the season series with a dominating 9-3 win at Fowler Park last March.

A LOOK AT THE AZTECS: SDSU has started the season at 5-2, with both losses coming by a one-run margin. SDSU has outscored their opponents 44-29 and own a .298 team batting average and 3.57 earned run average over the first seven games of the season.

A RECAP OF THE LEGACY: SDSU put on a 2-1 performance in the fourth annual Tony Gwynn Legacy, matching last year's 2-1 showing as the Aztecs' best record in the San Diego-based tournament.

The Aztecs held off a late rally by Utah as Matt Rudick hit a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth just before Casey Schmitt go out of a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the ninth to preserve the 1-run win.

SDSU was shut out for just the third time in the last 68 games against Oklahoma in a 1-0 loss.

SDSU quickly erased a 3-0 deficit against Kansas State, ultimately using an eight-run sixth inning highlighted by a Chad Bible 3-RBI double to take the lead. Justin Goossen-Brown, making his third appearance of the week, earned the win with three innings of shutout, one-hit relief.

STRIKEOUTS GALORE: San Diego State ranks second in the country (minimum two games played) in strikeouts per nine innings, owning 91 strikeouts through seven games played for 13.0 strikeouts per nine innings. SDSU had a streak of six consecutive games with 12 or more strikeouts snapped on Sunday's 10-7 win over Kansas State. SDSU entered the 2019 season not having a streak of four or more 12+ strikeout games since at least 2000.

FUN WITH TWO: The Aztecs have scored 27 of their 44 runs this year with two outs and as a team are hitting .343 (23-for-67) with two outs.
