WOODLAND, Calif. – San Diego State lacrosse goalkeeper Katy Sharretts was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for a pair of outstanding performances in the Aztecs' season-opening victories over Pac-12 opponents Oregon and California in Las Vegas.
With her award, the SDSU redshirt junior garnered the third weekly conference award of her career.
A native of Bel Air Md., Sharretts played a key role in lifting the Aztecs to their second consecutive 2-0 start to a season after recording 21 saves, a .568 save percentage and an 8.01 goals-against-average this past weekend.
In SDSU's 13-8 triumph over Oregon on Friday, Sharretts finished with eight saves while posting one ground ball and one caused turnover. The 2018 all-MPSF selection limited the Ducks to just two goals in the second half, keeping them off the scoreboard for the final 15 minutes of the contest, as the Aztecs overcame a 6-4 deficit at halftime.
On Sunday against Cal, Sharretts notched her 10th career game with double-digit saves after making 13 stops to go with one ground ball in a 13-9 conquest. She stymied the Golden Bears with 11 saves in the first half alone, helping to keep the score tied at 5-5, before SDSU went on an 8-4 run in the second half to win going away.
Sharretts and the Aztecs return to action on Friday, Feb. 22, the Scarlet and Black plays host to No. 24 USC in the team's regular-season home opener, starting at 1 p.m. PT. Free schedule magnets will be available to all fans in attendance.
