Aztec Storylines
ANTEATERS IN TOWN: San Diego State welcomes UC Irvine on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. before hosting the Tony Gwynn Legacy this weekend. The game can be listened to on Fox Sports San Diego XTRA 1360.

HISTORY WITH UCI: The Anteaters won both meetings last season and have won three of the last four. Prior to those four games, the Aztecs had won five of the previous six. SDSU is 57-36-1 against the Anteaters all-time, including a 30-20 record when playing in San Diego.

SERIES WIN TO START IT OFF: SDSU won its season-opening series for the fifth time in the last six years last weekend, winning both the series opener and series finale against San Francisco. The Aztecs improved to 13-5 in season-opening series since 2013. The Aztecs outhit USF .320 - .232 for the series.

STRIKEOUTS GALORE: The Aztecs recorded 47 strikeouts over 27 innings (15.67 strikeouts per nine) against San Francisco last weekend, setting a Mountain West-era record for most strikeouts in a single series. The Aztecs recorded 17, 15, and 15 strikeouts, respectively, throughout the series, marking the first time since at least 2000 that the Aztecs have recorded three consecutive games with 15 or more strikeouts.

Logan Boyer, Casey O'Sullivan, Brad Wegman, Adrian Mardueno, and Christian Winston all either tied or set new career-highs in strikeouts this weekend. Six different Aztecs recorded five or more strikeouts this weekend.

JULIAN ESCOBEDO: Junior outfielder Julian Escobedo put on the best weekend of his collegiate career against San Francisco, leading the Aztecs in batting average (.500, 6-for-12), runs (four), hits (six), home runs (one), RBIs (eight), total bases (10), slugging percentage (.833), and on-base percentage (.571). Escobedo drove in the game-winning runs in each of SDSU's two wins last weekend and set a new career-high in RBIs (five) and total bases (seven) on Friday night against the Dons. Escobedo enters Tuesday night with a career-long 27-game on base streak.

AZTECS AGAINST THE BIG WEST: The Aztecs are 23-8 against Big West members over the last two seasons and have won three straight.

ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END: SDSU saw an 86-game winning streak when leading after eight innings come to an end on Saturday afternoon after surrendering a three-run lead in the ninth inning. The streak stood as one of the top five longest in the nation.

Casey Schmitt also saw his consecutive scoreless innings streak come to a close after finishing his freshman year with 25.1 consecutive scoreless innings.

CALIFORNIA LOVE: Since 2014, the Aztecs lead all Division I California programs in win total. Also, over that span, SDSU is 96-45 (.667) when playing in-state counterparts.
