Aztecs Head to Wyoming for First MW Road Game

Need to Know
• The Aztecs head to Wyoming for their first conference road game of the year. They take on the Cowgirls Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. PT.
• The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network. There will also be an audio-only broadcast with Chris Ello (12th season) on the call. A link to both broadcasts will be available on GoAztecs.com on the women's basketball schedule page.
• After starting 4-1, the Aztecs have lost six of their last seven games.
• The Aztecs had 21 offensive rebounds vs. Boise State with 17 coming in the first half. That was a season-high and the first time SDSU had more offensive rebounds than defensive boards.
• In their conference opener, the Aztecs took Boise State, the reigning Mountain West champion, down to the wire after being down by 13 points early in the fourth quarter. The Aztecs had a chance to tie it at the buzzer, but their shot rimmed out and they fell 69-66.
• Sophia Ramos leads all Mountain West freshmen in points, assists, assist/turnover ratio and minutes played. Overall, she is third in the conference in scoring and fifth in assists per game. She is also top five in three-point and free throw percentage.
• Mallory Adams leads all Mountain West freshmen in rebounding. After scoring a career-high 17 points against UC Santa Barbara, she topped that with 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds against Boise State. Adams is averaging 16.7 points over her last three games.
• Sophomore Najé Murray is second in the Mountain West in steals and is fourth in three-pointers made per game.
• Zayn Dornstauder had a career-high eight rebounds vs. Boise State and added eight points.
• The Aztecs lead the conference in made free throws and are third in free throw attempts. However, they are seventh in free throw percentage (.691).
• Starting guard Téa Adams returned to the lineup after missing the previous two games with an injury.
 
Noting the Boise State Game (L, 66-69, 1-5-19)
• The Aztecs had 17 offensive rebounds in the first half and 21 in the game, a season-high. They had 20 defensive rebounds, marking the first time this year they had more offensive boards than defensive.
• The Aztecs have faced double-digit deficits in the first quarter in each of their last three games.
• The Aztecs scored 11 field goals in the fourth quarter, matching their total from the first three quarters combined.
• The Aztecs made just one three-pointer, their second time this year making one or less. In their last two games, they are 3-for-26 from three-point range.
• SDSU had 42 points in the paint, their highest output of the season.
• Mallory Adams had a career-high in points for the second straight game. After scoring 21 against UC Santa Barbara, she had 20 vs. the Broncos. Adams also had a career-high 12 rebounds and her fourth career double-double.
• Zayn Dornstauder had a career-high eight rebounds to go along with eight points.

Scouting the Cowgirls
•  Wyoming is 8-3 overall and 1-1 in conference.
•  They have won five of their last six games. Their lone loss came at Boise State, the reigning MW champ.
•  They are 7-0 at home this year.
•  They lead the nation in three-point percentage (.437) and lead the conference in three-pointers made per game (9.2).
•  The Cowgirls also have the fewest turnovers in the nation and have the seventh best assist/turnover ratio (1.45).
•  Marta Gomez leads the team with 15.4 points per game. She is shooting 46.3 percent from three, second best in the MW.
•  Bailee Cotton is averaging a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game, third in the conference.
•  Quinn Weidemann is shooting 53.3 percent from three, tops in the conference.
•  Head Coach Joe Legerski (16th season) was last year's Mountain West Coach of the Year. He has a career record of 297-180.
 
All-Time Series vs. the Cowgirls
•  This will be the 57th meeting between these two programs and the all-time series is tied at 28-28.
•  They split their two meetings last year with the home team winning both games.
•  SDSU is 7-18 all-time in Laramie, Wyo.
•  SDSU has won four of the past six meetings and 10 of their last 14.
•  They first met February 2, 1991 as members of the WAC. SDSU won that game 79-75 in overtime.
 
Fab Frosh
Mallory Adams
•  Mallory Adams had a career-high 20 points last Saturday against Boise State.
•  Adams has four double-doubles on the year. She has brought in nine rebounds or more in seven of her last nine games and just hauled in a career-best 12 boards against Boise State.
•  Adams is averaging 16.7 points over her last three games.
•  She is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game, which is fourth in the conference and most among freshmen.
•  She leads the conference in free throw attempts and is second in free throws made.
•  Adams had 10 or more rebounds in three straight games earlier this year. The last Aztec to do that was SDSU legend and current pro Chelsea Hopkins, who did it in the 2011-12 season.
•  She has committed just 14 turnovers in 374 minutes played, the best rate on the team.
•  Adams averaged a double-double at the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic and was named to the All-Tournament Team.               
Sophia Ramos
•  She leads the Aztecs in scoring with 15.5 points per game, this is fourth in the conference and best among freshmen.
•  She leads all freshmen in the Mountain West in points, assists, assist/turnover ratio and minutes.
•  She is shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 41.3 percent from three, both are best on the team and top five in the conference.
•  Sophia Ramos scored a career-high 28 points at CSUN (12-9-18) with seven three-pointers including six in the fourth quarter.
•  Her 28 points and 10 made field goals in that game were the most by an Aztec this season.
•  Her seven three-pointers tie her for the second most in school history and her she became the first Aztec to hit six three-pointers in a quarter
•  Despite being 5'9", she is second on the team in rebounds (5.1 per game). She had a career-high 10 in her last game vs. Arizona (12-2-18).
 
Building a Perimeter
• The Aztecs are third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.335).
• Sophia Ramos is shooting 41.3 percent from three, tied for the fifth best rate in the conference.
Najé Murray is fourth in the conference in three-pointers made and attempted.
• Murray is averaging 2.6 made three-pointers per game, which puts on her pace to break the Aztecs' single-season record of 77 set by Jamey Cox (2003) and Courtney Clements (2013).
 
Earning it at the Line
• The Aztecs lead the conference in made free throws and are third in free throw attempts.
• However, SDSU is just seventh in free throw percentage (.691).
• Mallory Adams leads the conference in free throw attempts and is second in free throws made.
