SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's tennis team begins its regular season on Sunday, Jan. 20, against Sacramento State. The Aztecs host the Hornets in a noon match at the Aztec Tennis Center.

A somewhat regular fixture on the Aztecs' spring calendar, the Hornets last visited the Mesa for dual play back in March of 2017 when Sac State claimed a 4-3 win over the Scarlet and Black.

The Aztecs hosted its two annual fall tournaments in September and November 2018 – SDSU Fall Classic I and SDSU Fall Classic II, respectively – with members of the squad claiming championship victories in both events. Sophomore Nnena Nadozie was the lone Aztec to claim a championship bracket singles victory in FC I, while both sophomore Abbie Mulbarger and freshman Agustina Rimoldi Godoy nabbed singles wins in their respective championship matches.

SDSU also competed at the ITA Southwest Regionals in October at Barnes Tennis Center (San Diego) where pairs junior Mia Smith and Mulbarger, as well as senior Magda Aubets and Nadozie advanced to play in the doubles round of 16.

New to the squad this spring is freshman Alicia Melosch, a native of La Jolla, Calif., who is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Germany. Melosch joins the team for the 2019 regular season campaign after graduating in June 2018 from Gymnasium Schenefeld in Schenefeld, Germany, where she accrued several years of high-level competitive experience and was a top-ranked player in German junior standings.
