Aztecs Set for Road Games at UCI & CSUN

Need to Know
• The Aztecs are back on the road this weekend, playing a pair of southern California Big West teams. They are at UC Irvine Friday for a 7:00 p.m. game and then play at CSUN Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
• Both games will be streamed on BigWest.tv. Additionally, Chris Ello (12th season) calling the action for an audio-only broadcast. Links to both broadcasts are available on the women's basketball schedule page on GoAztecs.com.
• After starting the year 4-1, the Aztecs have lost their last three games. Last Sunday they lost at home to Arizona 60-69 after holding a 12 point lead in the first half.
• Freshman Sophia Ramos had a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. An Aztec freshman has now 10 or more rebounds in four straight games and had a double-double in three of the last four games.
• Sophia Ramos leads all Mountain West freshmen in assists, assist/turnover ratio and minutes played and is second in points per game and rebounds.
• Mallory Adams leads all Mountain West freshmen in rebounding.
• Sophomore Najé Murray leads the Mountain West in steals and in three-pointers made.
• Starting guard Téa Adams missed the last game with an injured ankle.
• The Aztecs weren't outrebounded in their first six games but have been in each of their last two contests.
• The Aztecs are in the top 40 in the nation in both free throws made and attempted, but 211th in free throw percentage (65.9%).
• The Aztecs set program-highs for total attendance and average attendance last season and are on pace to break that again with an average of 1,492 fans per game through five home games this season.

Noting the Arizona Game (L, 60-69, 12-2-18)
• The Aztecs had assists on 16 of their 20 field goals.
• Sophia Ramos had a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. An Aztec freshman has had a double-double in three of the last four games.
• The Aztecs weren't outrebounded in their first six games but have been in each of their last two contests.
• Baylee Vanderdoes scored a season-high 11 points.
• With Tea Adams sidelined with an injury, Kennedi Villa made her first career start. Villa and Loli Gomez both posted career-highs in minutes in Adams' absence.
• The Aztecs led by as much as 12 points in the first half, their largest lead in a loss this season.
• Arizona's Aari McDonald's 29 points were the most an opposing player has scored on the Aztecs this season. She entered the game second in the nation in scoring.
• McDonald and Lucia Alonso each hit five three-pointers, also the most an opposing player has scored on SDSU this year.

Scouting the Anteaters
•  UC Irvine is a perfect 7-0 on the year.
•  They are outscoring their opponents by average margin of 29.6 points.
•  They already have wins over two Mountain West teams this year: UNLV and San Jose State.
•  Jordan Sanders leads the team in scoring (20.7) and rebounds (8.0). She is 23rd in the nation in scoring.
•  Lauren Saiki averages 5.9 assists per game and has a 2.9 assist to turnover ratio, the 29th best rate in the nation.
•  As a team, the Anteaters are top 50 in the nation in free-throws made, attempted and free-throw percentage.
•  UC Irvine is 13th in the country in steals per game (13.4).
•  The Anteaters are shooting just 27 percent from three and average 4.0 three-pointers per game.
•  Head Coach Tamara Inoue (3rd season) took UCI to their first postseason appearance since 1995 last season.

All-Time Series vs. the Anteaters
•  San Diego State is 19-7 all-time against UC Irvine
•  The Aztecs are 9-2 when playing at UC Irvine.
•  The Anteaters beat the Aztecs 67-65 in San Diego last season.
•  The first meeting was December 16, 1977, a 93-55 SDSU win. That is the most points the Aztecs have ever scored against UC Irvine.
•  This is the first of three straight games against Big West teams.
•  This is also the third game of the season against a Big West school. The Aztecs have already played Hawai'i and Cal State Fullerton and beat both teams.
• SDSU is 106-93 (.533) all-time against current Big West schools.

Scouting the Matadors (as of 12-6-18).
•  CSUN are 4-5 on the year.
•  They host LMU Friday evening.
•  The Matadors are 2-1 at home.
•  Channon Fluker leads the team in points (15.8), rebounds (12.3) and blocks (2.4), She is 14th in the nation in rebounds and sixth in blocks.
•  Fluker already has six double-doubles, the third most in the nation.
•  As a team, they have a 1.13 assist to turnover ratio, tops in the Big West
•  CSUN and SDSU have one common opponent. They both played Santa Clara on the road. CSUN beat them 53-38 and the Aztecs lost to them 43-60.
•  Head coach Jason Flowers (9th season) has the most wins in program history and has taken them to the NCAA Tournament three times, including last season.

Fab Frosh
Mallory Adams
•  Mallory Adams had 10 or more rebounds in three straight games earlier this year. The last Aztec to do that was SDSU legend and current pro Chelsea Hopkins, who did it in the 2011-12 season.
•  Adams' 41 defensive rebounds leads the Mountain West.
•  She is averaging 7.4 rebounds per game, which is sixth in the conference and most among freshmen.
•  She is second in the MW in free throws made and third in free throws attempted.
•  She has committed just eight turnovers in 238 minutes played, the best rate on the team.
•  Adams averaged a double-double at the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic and was named to the All-Tournament Team.               
Sophia Ramos
•  Sophia Ramos scored a career-high 24 points at San Diego last Wednesday.
•  Her 24 points and 10 made field goals in that game were the most by an Aztec this season.
•  She leads the Aztecs in scoring with 14.4 points per game.
•  She leads all freshmen in the Mountain West in assists, assist/turnover ratio and minutes.
•  She is shooting 48.9 percent from the floor, best on the team.
•  Despite being 5'9", she is second on the team in rebounds (5.6 per game). She had a career-high 10 in her last game vs. Arizona (12-2-18).

Building a Perimeter
• The Aztecs are third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.331).
Najé Murray leads the conference in three-pointers made and attempted.
• Murray is averaging 3.0 made three-pointers per game, which puts on her pace to break the Aztecs' single-season record of 77 set by Jamey Cox (2003) and Courtney Clements (2013).

Block Party
• The Aztecs are second in the conference with 4.3 blocks per game.
• Zayn Dornstauder, the 6'3" Canadian who transferred from Ball State, is third in the MW in total blocks (12) and blocks per game (1.5).

Master Thief
Najé Murray had a career-high six steals last week at San Diego
• She leads the conference in total steals and steals per game.
