SCENE SETTER
* San Diego State continues a challenging stretch to the non-conference portion ofits schedule when the Aztecs play host to San Diego on Wednesday night at Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena.
* The Aztecs and Toreros are meeting for the 50th time, with San Diego State owning a 31-18 lead in the series. The Aztecs have won the last two encounters and are 11-1 in the last 12 contests played between the teams.
* San Diego State has won the last 11 games in the series played indoors (the lone exception was the Dec. 6, 2015 game played at Petco Park.
* The Aztecs have won the last eight games in the series played at Viejas Arena. USD's last victory at SDSU came on Dec. 9, 2000 (Steve Fisher's second season as head coach). During the eight-game win streak at home, the Aztecs have outscored the Toreros by 103 points (572-469). In that stretch three games have been decided by single digits (6 in 2003, 3 in 2006 and 9 in 2014).
* This marks just the third time in the last 22 seasons that both teams have entered the game with at least five victories and the teams are collectively at least seven games above .500. In 2012, SDSU (7-1, entering the game) defeated USD (6-5), 72-56 and last season SDSU (5-2) defeated USD (5-0), 66-57.
* SDSU head coach Brian Dutcher is 1-0 as a head coach and 14-5 while on the bench (counts time as the associate head coach/head coach in waiting, etc.) against USD. As a head coach, Dutcher is 2-0 against members of the WCC, with victories last season at San Diego (66-57) and over 12th-ranked Gonzaga (72-70).
* The Aztecs have won 16 of their last 18 games vs. teams that called the West Coast Conference home at the time of the game.
* San Diego State is 14-3 in its last 17 games - regardless of location - dating back to last season.
* The Aztecs have won nine consecutive home games (T-20th longest active streak nationally), outscoring the opposition 776-567 (86.2-63.0) during that span.
* Last Saturday, San Diego State snapped Illinois State's 10-game homecourt win streak with a 75-65 victory. In addition to facing a 6-2 USD team on Wednesday, SDSU travels to California for a Saturday contest. Since SDSU won at California on Dec. 8, 2010, the Bears are 56-13 at home against non-conference opposition.
