SAN DIEGO – San Diego State water polo head coach Carin Crawford has announced the signing of three players to National Letters Intent. Joining the Aztecs for the 2020 season will be center Jordan Duggan (Santa Barbara, Calif.), utility Katie Ratcliff (El Cajon, Calif) and goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, Calif.).
Jordan Duggan helped the 805 Santa Barbara Water Polo Club win the 18U gold medal at the U.S. Club Championships last summer. She also helped Santa Barbara High School finish second in CIF in 2017. She has extensive competitive experience and has helped her teams finish in the top four of the junior Olympics from 2012-18. Additionally, she was named an Academic All-American earlier this year.
"Jordan is a strong young center with championship game experience," Crawford said. "Jordan will come to SDSU from Santa Barbara 805, arguably the strongest club team in the nation. Under the direction of head coach Cathy Neushul, the club has dominated the age-group scene for years, so Jordan is well-prepared for Division I water polo and I look forward to coaching her in the next phase of her development."
Katie Ratcliff will come to SDSU from nearby Valhalla High School, where she was earned All-American and all-league honors the past two seasons while helping her team go undefeated and win the Grossmont League Championship in each of the past three years. She has amassed 204 goals, 84 assists and 155 steals in her high school career and last season had 81 goals, 28 assists and 66 steals. She has also played the last two seasons for the San Diego Shores Club Junior Olympic Team.
"Katie Ratcliff is a strong utility player who can play both sides of the ball," Crawford said. "Katie is a quality student-athlete, who is a hard worker and prolific goal scorer. Katie has tremendous upside and we are thrilled she will continue her collegiate career in her hometown. We are thrilled that Katie will be reunited with her former high school and SD Shores club teammate Spencer Samuel when she joins our program next fall."
The Aztecs also added goalkeeper Hannah McCarley, who will be coming to the Mesa from Riverside Community College. Following a record-breaking career at Martin Luther King High School, she has excelled at RCC where she was named the league's co-MVP last season after racking up 62 saves in in six conference matches, including a career-high 26 against Fullerton. She finished her RCC career with a 36-13 record and 463 saves.
"Hannah McCarley is a great athlete and an accomplished goal keeper," Crawford praised. "She possesses an extremely competitive mind-set. Hannah absolutely dominated at RCC, and I am excited about the defensive leadership that Hannah will provide in goal for SDSU. Hannah has the skills, drive and determination to be a leader and a difference-maker for her team and I look forward to what she will bring to our team in the coming seasons."
The Aztecs begin their 2019 season January 19 when they head to Hawaii for the Rainbow Invitational.
