FRISCO, Texas – The San Diego State football team completed its final practice on Monday in preparation for the 2018 DXL Frisco Bowl.
With temperatures topping off in the low 50s outside, the Aztecs were sheltered from the relatively frosty North Texas air inside the cozy environs of the state-of-the-art Ford Center at The Star, a 510,000 square foot indoor athletic facility shared by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, the City of Frisco and Frisco Independent School District high schools.
SDSU held another animated practice session lasting just over 90 minutes on the plush artificial turf before the seniors were hoisted off the field individually by their teammates in an annual tradition.
"These have been the best years of my life, I love San Diego State," said senior defensive lineman Anthony Luke after his final collegiate practice. "This was the best decision of my life. I'm so happy, I'm so grateful to be here. It's bittersweet, but we're going to play hard tomorrow. I might leave some tears on the field, but it's okay. We've been through blood, sweat and tears, and it's just another opportunity to make memories."
"It was awesome when we found out we were going to the Frisco Bowl," said junior quarterback and native Texan Ryan Agnew when asked about returning to the Lone Star State in the postseason for the second year in a row. "Bowl games are awesome as it is, and now being able to go home and play in front of the home crowd, see my friends and family—a lot of them are going to come out and support—I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity.
"The team is ready, the team is excited. We've been waiting too long to play another football game and we can't wait to get back out there."
Later this evening, the Aztecs will partake in the team dinner for both squads at Toyota Stadium.
A busy Tuesday awaits the Scarlet and Black, highlighted by a late-morning visit to Children's Medical Center in nearby Plano, Texas, following a press conference, a brief walk-through and a team photo shoot at Toyota Stadium.
San Diego State (7-5), which is making its school-record ninth straight bowl appearance, will tackle the Ohio Bobcats (8-4) on Wednesday, Dec. 19, beginning at 7 p.m. CT/5 p.m. PT.
