SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swimming and diving team defeated Pepperdine 141-132 in a dual meet the Aztec Aquaplex on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Aztecs improve to 6-0 in dual meet competition on the year.
SDSU started its afternoon off claiming the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. Alma Thormalm, Morganne McKennan, Lizzie Menzmer and Sammy Geyer recorded a race-best 1:44.58 while Elli Ferrin, Klara Thormalm, Ava Howard, and Peyton Wilson teamed up for a second-place time of 1:46.66.
A pair of Aztec freshman won each of the next two events, with Maude Boily Dufour taking first-place in the 200 IM at 2:07.67 while Kristina Murphy led the 200 free pack with a time of 1:51.95.
Mia Ryan won the 1650 free, finishing the mile in 17:39.48. In the following race, Caitlin Delany took home the 100 breast crown, completing the race in 1:03.48.
Kassidy Henson, Rachael Kelch and Andy Felix took the top three spots of the 200 fly, respectively, with Henson posting a first-place time of 2:05.67.
Boily-Dufour claimed her second first-place finish of the day in the 200 back, clocking in at 2:03.24. McKenna Meyer won the 500 free for the Aztecs, finishing in 5:01.57.
Lizzie Menzmer won the 100 free, finishing .19 seconds ahead of Pepperdine's top finisher at 54.14. SDSU collected each of the top five 200 breast times, led by McKennan's time of 2:18.15.
In the final individual race of the day, Rachael Kelch won the 400 IM, touching the wall at 4:40.62. SDSU won both first place and second place in the 400 free relay, with Alma Thormalm, Peyton Wilson, McKenna Meyer, and Anna Stahlak finishing first (3:31.64) and Klara Thormalm, Lizzie Menzmer, Courtney Vincent, and Cathy Cooper finishing second (3:33.48).
With the win, SDSU improves to 6-0 against Pepperdine over the last three years.
The Aztecs continue action at the Aztec Aquaplex on Wednesday, Dec. 19, when they host Air Force and Cal Poly for a 10:00 a.m. dual meet.
