SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swimming and diving team is set to compete at home for the first time in over two months on Friday, Nov. 30, hosting Pepperdine for a dual meet set to begin at 2:00 p.m. The meet begins a stretch of four consecutive home meets running between Nov. 30 and Jan. 11.
Most recently, the Aztecs recorded an impressive third-place finish at the Mizzou Invitational, trailing only No. 20 Missouri and Arkansas on the leaderboard. The Aztecs made plenty of edits to the record book, including Courtney Vincent breaking her own school record in the 100 fly with a time of 52.18. In total, the Aztecs recorded 19 top-10 times and scores in school history at the Mizzou Invitational.
Freshman Kristina Murphy leads the team with three top-10 times so far this season, including owning the program's fourth-best time in the 200 breast (2:12.57), seventh-best time in the 200 IM (2:01.17) and eighth best time in the 100 breast (1:01.94). Murphy was also part of SDSU's 400 medley relay team that recorded the fifth-fastest time in school history at the Mizzou Invitational, as she teamed up with Elli Ferrin, Vincent, and Alma Thormalm for a time of 3:38.13 for a third-place finish in Missouri.
Freshman Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez won her first career Mountain West Diver of the Week award after her performance in Missouri, being the only diver in the field to record top-three scores in both 1-meter and 3-meter competition. It marks as SDSU's second Diver of the Week award this season, with Delaney Gallagher having won it earlier this year for her showing at the Chick-fil-A Invitational in Fresno, California. It marks as the first time since the 2007-08 season that SDSU has had multiple student-athletes win MW Diver of the Week in the same season.
The Aztecs currently rank No. 30 in College Swimming's rankings and are the highest ranked Mountain West team. Boise State is the only other team in the conference inside College Swimming's top 50, standing at No. 34.
In dual meets this season, SDSU sits at 5-0 including a 71-53 road win at Pepperdine on Oct 4. The Aztecs are 5-0 in dual meets against the Waves over the last three seasons.
Following the Aztecs-Waves contest, SDSU hosts Air Force and Cal Poly at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
