SCENE SETTER (through games of Nov. 10)
* San Diego State and Fresno State, the two teams that have claimed all five Mountain West, West Division titles in league history, meet once again with major conference implications on the line Saturday in Fresno. 
* MW Western Division champions (two-division era; * - won conference championship game): San Diego State (2): 2015*, 2016*; Fresno State (3): 2013*, 2014, 2017.
* San Diego State and Fresno State meeting for the 58th time. The 57 games against Fresno State are SDSU's most in program history. The Old Oil Can Trophy is presented to the winner of the game. 
* San Diego State owns a 29-24-4 series lead. The Bulldogs snapped a two-game SDSU series winning streak last season with a 27-3 decision at SDCCU Stadium.
* In Fresno, the Bulldogs own a 14-11-2 advantage. The Aztecs snapped a three-game losing streak at Bulldog Stadium with a 17-3 victory in 2016. Prior to that win, SDSU's last victory in Fresno was in 1997.
* San Diego State has played eight consecutive games that have been decided by eight points or less. This is the longest streak by any FBS team since UCLA had an eight-game stretch in 2000. The last time a team had a longer streak was Texas Tech (9) in 1998.
* San Diego State is 7-1 the last three seasons when being an "underdog." The Aztecs have wins this season over Arizona State and at Boise State against teams that were favorite.
* San Diego State is 2-0 this season in the game following a loss and is 6-2 in the game following its last eight in-season defeats.

NEWS AND NOTES (through games of Nov. 10)
* The Aztecs are 38-9 in their last 47 overall games and 26-6 in their last 32 regular-season games against Mountain West opponents (28-6 against MW opponents, including conference championship games).
* San Diego State is 10-3 in its last 13 games decided by eight points or less and is 24-11 in one-score games in the Rocky Long era.
* San Diego State is currently 11th nationally in total defense, allowing only 302.3 yards per game. The Aztecs have been particularly effective on that side of the ball of late, holding five of its last six opponents to 297 yards or less. Since 2015, SDSU is 36-4 when holding the opponent to 380 yards of total offense or less.
* The Aztecs are fifth nationally in rushing defense per game at 94.7 yards. San Diego State, which is allowing just 2.7 yards per rush, is 33-4 since 2015 (with 11 straight victories) when the opponent has a 3.7 yards per rush average or lower.
* The Aztecs have won 25 consecutive games when owning a turnover advantage. That is the nation's longest active streak.
* SDSU is averaging 14.20 yards per completion, the 17th-highest average nationally. Of all SDSU quarterbacks in the last 22 seasons (since 1996), junior Ryan Agnew has the highest career yards per completion (14.37, min. 100 completions).
* Senior PK John Baron II has the third-highest field goal percentage among active kickers in the nation (min. 25 FGM). He is 49-of-57 in his career (86.0 percent). He also is tied for the national lead in 50+-yard field goals this season (4) and he is 5-for-5 this season and 25-of-27 in road/neutral games in his career with eight consecutive makes.
