Notes
- After playing seven of its last 10 games on the road, San Diego State returns home this week to open a stretch where it will play five of its last seven games at home, starting Friday vs. Utah State. Two days later, the Aztecs will play host to Boise State on Sunday afternoon.
- Both home games this week will stream live on the Mountain West Network and admission is free. The first 300 fans at Sunday's game will receive a free pair of San Diego State sunglasses. The contest vs. Boise State will be part of a men's-women's soccer doubleheader as the Aztec men's soccer team will play host to Washington at 11:30 a.m. PT.
- SDSU approaches the mid-way point of the Mountain West season in fourth place in the league standings at 2-1-1 and with seven points. The Aztecs are five points behind the Broncos and two behind Colorado College (3-1) and San José State (3-1). New Mexico and Wyoming are lurking with six points apiece.
- San Diego State opened its second-to-last road trip of the season last week with a gritty 1-0 win at San José State. The Aztecs, however, let a golden chance slip away to earn at least one point when they allowed an 87th-minute goal at Fresno State to fall, 2-1.
- The Aztecs handed SJSU its first conference loss of the season when Taylor Moorehead scored 90 seconds after she entered the game. The winner, which came with 64 seconds left in the second half, was the result of a Spartan goalkeeper turnover 30 yards away from the endline. Moorehead easily chipped her shot from 40 yards out to record her team-best second goal of the year and second game-winner of 2018.
- SDSU was forced to come from behind at Fresno State as the Bulldogs struck for a goal in the 35th minute. Phoebe Leitch leveled the score in the 64th minute off a feed from Sarah Broacha and the Aztecs looked poised to send the game into overtime. Fresno State, however, found the winner in the 87th minute.
- For their efforts in Fresno, Leitch and Broacha moved into a four-way tie for the team lead in points (4). Leitch, a sophomore, has two goals along with Moorehead, while Broacha tallied her team- and career-best second assist. Broacha and sophomore classmate Chloe Frisch each have one goal and two helpers on the season.
- San Diego State has been really good against Mountain West competition of late. The Aztecs are 6-1-1 in their last eight regular-season games and 8-1-1 in their last nine (regular season, tournament). SDSU will carry a five-game regular-season home unbeaten streak (3-0-2) against conference competition, a run that includes three straight victories, into Friday's tilt.
- The Aztecs have played well historically in the month of October. Since the 2009 season, San Diego State has compiled a 54-10-7 record, good for a .810 winning percentage. More recently, SDSU has won at a .875 clip, posting a 38-6-4 record since 2012.
- The start of conference play has led to an increase in scoring for San Diego State. In eight non-league games this season, SDSU totaled six goals with only one multi-goal performance. In contrast, the Aztecs have found the back of the net four times in four Mountain West games and have won one multi-goal effort.
- San Diego State enters Friday's game with a 6-0-1 all-time record vs. Utah State. The Aztecs have won six straight in the series with all six coming as members of the Mountain West. SDSU is 2-0-1 in home games vs. the Aggies.
- The last two games vs. Utah State have resulted in 2-1 scores, including the last meeting in San Diego back in 2016. In fact, both of SDSU's home victories have been by 2-1 margins.
- San Diego State has won seven of 10 all-time meetings with Boise State and emerged victorious in its last four get-togethers, which have all been by shutout. In its last four wins, SDSU has outscored the Broncos, 7-0.
- The Aztecs have split four meetings with Boise State in San Diego, but have won two straight by 2-0 scores. The last time these teams met, SDSU shutdown the Broncos, 1-0, to earn a spot in the 2017 Mountain West championship game. San Diego State went on to defeat New Mexico to win the conference tournament in Las Vegas.
