NEWS AND NOTES (through games of Oct. 20)
* Winners of six consecutive games, San Diego State begins a stretch of three of four away from America's Finest City Saturday night with a game at Nevada in Reno.
* The teams are meeting for the 11th time with SDSU owning a 7-3 series lead with three straight wins. The Aztecs and Wolf Pack have split the previous four meetings in Reno.
* On game night, it will be 57 days since SDSU last suffered a loss (Fri., Aug. 31). SDSU's six-game win streak is tied for the seventh longest in FBS play.
* San Diego State has put together a win streak of at least six games in each of the last four seasons. Only four teams in the country have a 6-plus game win streak in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 - San Diego State, Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State.
* SDSU, which has played in a school-record eight consecutive bowl games (including all seven seasons under Rocky Long), is bowl eligible for a ninth straight year. Through Oct. 20, only eight teams have been bowl eligible for the last nine seasons (must be bowl eligible this year to count on this list): San Diego State, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Stanford and Washington.
* San Diego State's 6-1 record is rated as the 20th best strength of record according to ESPN. This week, the Aztecs have 48 points in the AP Top 25 poll (good for 28th position) and 62 points in the Coaches Poll (28th).
* Once again this season, Rocky Long and defensive coordinator Zach Arnett have assembled one of the nation's best defenses. The unit ranks among the national leaders in rushing defense (83.6, 5th), total defense (306.9, 14th) and points allowed (18.4, 19th).
* No SDSU opponent has accumulated 400 yards of total offense this season. San Diego State's streak of holding seven consecutive opponents to less than 400 yards is tied for the fourth-longest active FBS streak (leader: Michigan, 14).
* The Aztecs are 37-7 in their last 44 overall games and 25-4 in their last 29 regular-season games against MW opponents (27-4 in last 31 against MW opponents, including MW championship games).
* San Diego State is 5-0 this season in games decided by one score. The five wins without a loss in games decided by one score (=<8) are the most in the country (Notre Dame, Northern Illinois and South Florida are all 4-0). The Aztecs have won nine of their last 10 (9-1) games decided by eight points or less.
* The Aztecs have won 25 consecutive games when owning a turnover advantage. That is the nation's longest active streak, four more than No. 2 (Oklahoma, 21).
* San Diego State has four, fourth-quarter game-winning drives this season. The most recent came last Saturday when the Aztecs broke a tie with a 51-yard field goal from senior John Baron to give SDSU a 16-13 victory over San José State.
* Baron, who went 3-for-3 in field goal attempts (including the 51-yarder to provide the game-winning score), was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time this season and the fourth time in his career.
* San Diego State rushed for 207 yards in the victory last week over the Spartans, its highest total since rushing for 311 yards in the victory over No. 23 Arizona State earlier this season. SDSU is now 41-1 when rushing for at least 200 yards since Oct. 13, 2012.
