SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will host the annual USA Track and Field (USATF) San Diego-Imperial Association Summer Nights Track and Field All-Comers and Red-Black Intrasquad Meet on Saturday, December 8 on the Aztrack Sports Deck.

The meet kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with the pole vault and high jump, while the running events get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the men and women's 4x200 meters relays using a "rolling schedule."

"The Red-Black meet signals the start of San Diego State's Winter Indoor Track campaign," says Head Coach Shelia Burrell.  "The Aztecs took third at last year's Indoor Mountain West Conference Championship are on track for a 2018 championship. Our plan is repeat as Outdoor Conference Champs as well. This meet gives us the opportunity show the campus, community, alumni, families and friends how good we are and what's in store for the upcoming season. The unusual part is that everyone is allowed to compete with the Aztecs, side by side."

The annual meet also serves as an intra-squad competition. The Aztecs are split into red and black teams who compete against each other in a dual-meet fashion. Competition routinely goes down to the wire and is often decided by the relay, which includes the coaches, at the end of the meet.

For the eighth year running, the meet will be USATF sanctioned. Marco Anzures, President of USATF San Diego-Imperial Association notes, "Our local USATF association is proud to team with schools like SDSU to host the Summer Nights Track and Field Series. These meets allow for all members of the community to try track and field events, from young children to master's athletes. We look forward to this year's Summer Nights Track and Field meet at SDSU and continued partnerships for years to come."

Youth, high school, junior college, university (including San Diego State students), alumni and masters competitors of all ages can participate ON an unattached basis, regardless of affiliation or ability.

The meet will feature discounted on-line registration. The competition will include Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) with wind readings for sprints and horizontal jumps. Throwers (especially masters) must bring their own implements. A record 415 athletes competed at the meet in 2017.

All competitors will pay their entry fees at the gate. However, those who register on-line by the deadline will receive a discount. On-line registered athletes are $10 for unlimited events payable by cash or check.  On-line registration is now open on Athletic

On-line registration closes on Wednesday, December 5 at midnight.  Registration will also be available the day of the event for $15, payable by cash for unlimited events. Spectator admission is free. Proceeds benefit the San Diego State Track and Field/Cross Country programs.
