SAN DIEGO  San Diego State women's tennis was unable to survive the main tournament bracket in the ITA Southwest Regionals at the Barnes Tennis Center as the final Aztec duo fell in its round of 16 match Saturday morning.

Senior Magda Aubets and sophomore Nnena Nadozie were hoping to find success against Gabby Andrews and Ayan Broomfield in their round of 16 doubles matchup on Saturday morning, but ultimately fell to the Bruins, 8-2, knocking the final Aztecs remaining out of the main bracket.

A second SDSU pair was scheduled to play in the round of 16, but a score recording error was discovered on Saturday morning that originally had junior Mia Smith and sophomore Abbie Mulbarger advancing to the round of 16 with an 8-3 win over UCLA Abi Altick and Alaina Millar in Friday's round of 32 as the Bruin duo actually defeated the Aztecs, 8-3, in the match.

The Aztecs faced an unfortunate series of losses in doubles consolation matches as well, where senior Jenny Moinard and freshman Ellie Ashley dropped a close 7-6 decision (vs. Zandberg/Van Aelst, Arizona), freshmen Agustina Rimoldi Godoy and Aesha Patel fell 6-1 (vs. Lagarde/Goncharova, UCSB) and Smith/Mulbarger lost 6-3 (vs. Wilson/Furak, Arizona).

SDSU did record three wins in the singles consolation draw where Moinard finished off a three-set victory over UCSB's Lise Sentenac, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7, Rimoldi Godoy topped Alzbeta Houbova, 6-2, 6-2, and Smith topped CSUN's Evelyn Schmidt, 6-1, 6-1.

Other Aztecs competing in singles consolation were freshman Shakhnoza Khatamova (loss to UCSB's Juliana Valero, 6-3, 6-0) Patel (loss to CSUN's Skyla Alcon, 7-5, 6-3), Ashley (loss to UCR's Lindsey Gelinas, 6-2, 6-2) and Mulbarger (loss to Arizona's Gitte Heynemans, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8).

Though the Aztecs will no longer compete in the main doubles or singles draws, the team will continue to play in consolation matches at 9 a.m. on Sunday and the matches will move from the Barnes Tennis Center to the Aztec Tennis Center.
