FROM THE FILM ROOM (through games of Oct. 20 all Film Room numbers provided by Pro Football Focus)
* Sophomore RG Keith Ismael earned the top run blocking grade (73.6) for the offensive line on Saturday and did not allow a quarterback pressure on 14 pass blocks. On five rush attempts at right guard, San Diego State halfbacks gained 34 yards (6.8 ypc). Ismael has been impressive all season for this offense. This marked the third game in which he allowed zero pressures this season. He has been one of the best run blocking guards in all of college football. His 75.4 run blocking grade this season is 12th nationally among offensive guards and tops in the Mountain West. Ismael has played every offensive snap for the Aztecs in 2018.
* Redshirt freshman RB Chance Bell played the first snaps of his NCAA career on Saturday and played very well. Bell recorded 20 offensive snaps vs San José State, and had 15 rush attempts for 81 yards. Of his rushing total, 54 occurred after contact (3.6 yards contact per attempt) and five avoided tackles. Bell's elusive rating off 120.0 ranked 25th nationally among all FBS RBs this week.
* Sophomore WAR Tariq Thompson had a fourth-quarter interception last night to end a Spartan drive in SDSU territory. It was the highlight of another impressive game for the sophomore. Thompson allowed only one reception for two yards on three targets in the game resulting in a NFL passer rating allowed in coverage of 2.8. Thompson played every defensive snap in the game. Thompson continues to show tremendous improvement defending the pass. In the past four games, he has allowed just 7-of-16 targets to be caught for 39 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions and one pass deflection. His passer rating allowed since week No. 3 is the third lowest among safeties in the league.
* Senior DE Chibu Onyuekwu had his highest rated game of the season vs San José State, posting a 73.9 game grade, the highest of his 19-game career. He was credited with three hurries on 24 pass rushes (pressure rate: 12.5 percent) and also had three defensive stops as well. Onyeukwu played 48 defensive snaps against the Spartans and has yet to be penalized this season.

* Rocky Long won his 70th game as head coach at San Diego State while coaching in his 100th game at SDSU.
* As impressive as his 70-30 record is at SDSU, Long has been even better of late, winning 38 of his most recent 45 games (38-7).
