TULSA, Okla. – The San Diego State men's tennis team had two tandems compete in qualifying doubles bracket of the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA All-American Championships Monday at Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
Junior Arnaud Restifo (Nice, France) joined forces with sophomore Jan Kirchhoff (Berlin, Germany) for the first time this season, but came up short by a 6-3, 7-5 count in the round of 64 against Tennessee's Preston Touliatos and Timo Stodder, who earned a No. 31 preseason ITA ranking last month.
The Aztec pairing of senior Sander Gjoels-Andersen (Klampenborg, Denmark) and sophomore Ignacio Martinez (Weston, Fla.) also fell victim to a nationally ranked duo, dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision to No. 44 Andy Andrade and Oliver Crawford of Florida in the same round.
San Diego State resumes its tournament schedule this weekend when it plays host to the Aztec Fall Invitational, Oct. 5-7, at Aztec Tennis Center.
