W. Tennis set to play ITA Southwest Regionals

SAN DIEGO  San Diego State women's tennis is set to co-host the ITA Southwest Regionals with the University of San Diego this Thursday, Oct. 18, through Monday, Oct. 22, at the Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma. Matches are slated to begin with doubles every day at 9 a.m., and singles action will immediately follow.
 
A total of 15 teams will be participating in this year's regional including hosts SDSU and USD, Pepperdine, Hawai'i, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Grand Canyon, University of Arizona, UC Riverside, USC, Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, Arizona State, UCLA and Loyola Marymount.
 
Three of the four Aztec duos will play in Thursday's doubles round of 64 as freshmen Shakhnoza Khatamova and Aesha Patel received a first-round bye. The duo is set to play the winner of Thursday's UC Riverside-Hawai'i matchup in the round of 32 on Friday at 9 a.m.
 
Freshman Ellie Ashley and senior Jenny Moinard will team up for doubles in Thursday's round of 64 to take on LBSU's Carlota Casasampere and Zara Lennon. Sophomore Abbie Mulbarger and junior Mia Smith will face GCU's Celina Buhr and Emilia Occhipinti at 9 a.m. on Thursday, while senior Magda Aubets and sophomore Nnena Nadozie play CSUN's Skyla Alcon and Ana Fraile Toboso.
 
In singles, play, Patel will utilize her bye in the doubles round of 64 to get off early in the singles round of 128 at 9 a.m. when she is set to play UCSB's Anastasia Goncharova. At 9:45, Ashley is scheduled to face USD's Daniela Morales in the round of 128, while Mulbarger goes up against LBSU's Sadaf Sadeghvaziri and Nadozie faces off versus ASU's Tereza Kolarova.
 
Also playing in the 9:45 a.m. round of 128 matches will be Agustina Rimoldi Godoy, who is matched up against UCSB's Juliana Valero, and Moinard, who will face GCU's Buhr.
 
Khatamova will receive another first-round bye in the round of 128 and is set to play LMU's Eva Voracek in the round of 64 at 11:15 on Thursday morning. Aubets will face Nikola Dolakova (Hawai'i) in the round of 128 at 11:15 a.m., while Mia Smith is matched up against LMU's Yesica De Lucas in that same round's time slot.
 
Results and updated brackets from the Southwest Regionals will also be available on GoAztecs.com following each day of play. Parking and admission at Barnes Tennis Center are free for spectators.
 
The Aztecs enter the tournament fresh off Fall Classic I at the end of September, where the team played GCU and CSUN—whom they will face at this weekend's regionals—as well as UTEP and Air Force. The Scarlet and Black tallied a total of five doubles victories and 13 singles wins over the course of the three-day event. Sophomore Nnena Nadozie recorded a notable finish, winning out to claim a victory in her singles championship bracket.
