Notes
- San Diego State returns to the road this week, but stays in the state of California, as it is set to face fellow CSU institutions, San José State and Fresno State. The trip represents the end of a stretch where the Aztecs will have played seven of 10 on the road.
- The Scarlet and Black opened Mountain West action last week with a home-road split, facing Wyoming at SDSU Sports Deck and Colorado State in Fort Collins. The Aztecs rallied for a 2-1 win over the Cowgirls before settling for a scoreless draw vs. the Rams.
- In the game with Wyoming, San Diego State allowed goal in the 30th minute only to find the equalizer, thanks to Chloe Frisch, in the 69th minute. Less than four minutes later, Yasmin Ahooja scored her first collegiate goal to put SDSU ahead and the defense held firm in winning its third straight conference opener.
- Fresh off the win over Wyoming, the Aztecs boarded a flight to Denver, Colorado the next morning and drove an hour north to Fort Collins to prepare for Sunday's tilt with the Rams. SDSU dominated the action, earning six corner kicks in regulation, which was double CSU's amount, but could not find the back of the net. The scoring drought for both teams continued into overtime and the Aztecs finished with their first draw since Oct. 8, 2017.
- San Diego State enters this week's action carrying a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) in Mountain West regular-season games. Against league competition regardless of game distinction (regular season, tournament), SDSU's record improves to 7-0-1 in its last eight when accounting for its two victories at the 2017 MW Championship.
- SDSU has not allowed a Mountain West opponent to score a goal in its last three games away from the Sports Deck. Dating to last year's Mountain West Championship, the Aztecs shut out Boise State (1-0) and New Mexico (4-0) en route to the title, and Colorado State last Sunday (0-0). San Diego State has not allowed an MW foe to score a goal away from home in its last 316:38.
- The Aztecs added another pair to their list of first-time scorers this season when Frisch and Ahooja scored against Wyoming. SDSU has scored eight goals this season and they have been scored by eight different players.
- Frisch became San Diego State's leader in points with her goal vs. the Cowgirls. The sophomore has four points on the year with her one goal and team-leading two assists. She is one goal and one assist shy of matching her freshman season total.
- Sarah Broacha assisted on Ahooja's goal, bringing her season point total to three, which is good for second on the team. The sophomore defender has already equaled her freshman output from a year ago. In fact, her stat line this season through 10 games is identical to that of her 2017 total (22 games): 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 points, .333 shot percentage, 2 shots on goal, .667 shot-on-goal percentage.
- Gabby English continued her ascent in the SDSU record book last week. The junior goalkeeper took sole possession of second place on the career saves chart on Friday when she made four stops, giving her 209, supassing Melanie Vaughn's 207 from 2012-15. She enters this week with 212 saves and trails only Aubree Southwick's 338 (2007-10).
- English moved up to No. 4 on the career shutouts list with her blanking of Colorado State. The Winter Park, Florida native now has 18.5 clean sheets, moving past Rachel Boaz's 18 from 2011-12. Next up on the list is Katherine Judkins, who had 23.5 shutouts from 1996-99.
- The Aztecs head to Northern California with a 10-2-2 all-time record vs. San José State. In its last two games vs. the Spartans, SDSU has not allowed a goal in 200 minutes of action, going 1-0-1 in the process. Last year, the teams finished in a 0-0 double-overtime draw. San Diego State is 3-2 all-time in San Jose.
- SDSU will bring an 11-2-2 all-time record vs. the Bulldogs into Fresno on Sunday. The Aztecs are 5-0-2 in their last seven vs. Fresno State with a pair of 1-1 ties the last two seasons. San Diego State is 3-2-1 against FS in Fresno.
