Aztecs Ready for No. 23/25 Arizona StateAztecs Ready for No. 23/25 Arizona State

NEWS AND NOTES (through games of Sept. 8)
* San Diego State continues a three-game homestand, its longest since ending the 2014 campaign with three straight home contests and the longest regular-season homestand since 2012, with a Saturday night contest against Pac-12 opponent and No. 23/25 Arizona State.
* The Aztecs and Sun Devils are meeting for the 13th time with Arizona State owning a 10-1-1 series advantage. San Diego State recorded its first victory last season in Tempe, defeating ASU, 30-20.
* This is the back end of a home-and-home series between the schools. San Diego State and Arizona State are scheduled to play again in 2027 (Tempe) and 2028 (San Diego).
* Several members of the Arizona State coaching staff with ties to SDSU will return to America's Finest City on Saturday. Head coach Herm Edwards played (1976) and graduated from the University, while assistant coaches Danny Gonzales (2011-17) and Tony White (2009-17) roamed the Aztec sidelines in recent seasons. >>> SDSU-ASU connections, pg. 6
* San Diego State is 16-3 in its last 19 home games dating back to Oct. 3, 2015. During that stretch, the Aztecs have outscored its opposition, 609-342 (average: 32.1-18.0), and has a remarkable 4,548-2,170 advantage in rushing yards (average: 239.4-114.2). Also, SDSU owns a +14 edge in turnover margin over that span.
* Last week, San Diego State overcame a second-quarter injury to senior starting quarterback Christian Chapman to rally for a 28-14 victory over Sacramento State. The Aztecs trailed, 14-13 in the fourth quarter before scoring two touchdowns in the final 4:05 to provide Rocky Long with his school-record 18th second half come from behind victory at SDSU.
* Junior RB Juwan Washington posted his second consecutive 150-yard rushing game and the fourth 100-yard effort of his career, with 156 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 36 carries. Through two weeks in the season, the Maxwell Award candidate is second nationally in rushing yards per game (157.0), fourth in rushing TDs (4) and fifth in all-purpose yards per game (197.5). He is the third player in school history to open a season with consecutive 150-yard rushing games (Marshall Faulk (1992) and Rashaad Penny (2017)).
* Junior quarterback Ryan Agnew came off the bench in his first extensive action of his career. He was 11-of-17 for 159 yards. This decade (since 2010), there have been only 35 occasions when an SDSU quarterback has thrown for at least 159 yards while completing 60 percent or more of his pass attempts in a game.
* Agnew provided SDSU with its first victory when trailing after three quarters since rallying for an OT win over Boise State in 2013.
* San Diego State is one of seven schools nationally to win at least 10 games each of the last three seasons. The other schools are Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin. >>> Entire list with records can be found on page four on the left column).
* Head coach Rocky Long, the all-time winningest coach in Mountain West history, has guided San Diego State to a bowl game in each of his first seven seasons as head coach. He is one of eight active coaches to lead their current team to a bowl game in each of the first seven seasons.
