SAN DIEGO – With San Diego State's 2018 football home opener against Sacramento State rapidly approaching, there are a number of activities available to fans come game day on Saturday, Sept. 8.
A large crowd is anticipated and fans are encouraged to arrive early, as parking is expected to reach capacity. The parking lot will open at 1 p.m. At that time, all three points of entry into the parking lot will be open: the main gate, the eastbound Friars Road entrance and the west side entrance. Stadium gates will open at 4 p.m.
Fans arriving early can experience the Wells Fargo Aztec Village, which will be open from 3-5:30 p.m. in Lots C1/D1 of the SDCCU Stadium parking lot. Entrance to the village is free to the public and there will be food and beverage options for purchase, along with a live DJ, as well as a Kids Zone with carnival rides, inflatable games, face painters and a photo booth. Members of the Aztec women's soccer and lacrosse teams will also be on hand to sign autographs.
The Wells Fargo Aztec Village will also be the site of KGB's live radio broadcast of the DSC Show from 3-5 p.m., while Judson Richards and former Aztec wide receiver J.R. Tolver of XTRA 1360 AM will host a pregame show from 4-6 p.m. on the stadium concourse near Gate E.
In addition to the Wells Fargo Aztec Village, there will be an SDSU Student Tailgate open from 3-5:30 p.m. near Lot J2 behind the trolley stop. This will be open to current San Diego State students and sponsored by MTS. The tailgate will feature free Woodstock's Pizza, free t-shirts, a photo booth, a live DJ, games and other giveaways.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., the Warrior Walk is set to begin between Lots E and F, led by Honor Warrior Dave DesRochers, who was a starting offensive tackle as a junior on the Aztecs' 1986 Western Athletic Conference championship and Holiday Bowl team. As a senior in 1987, he received all-WAC honorable mention and was presented with the Byron H. Chase Memorial Trophy as the team's outstanding lineman on offense. DesRochers also played basketball for SDSU as a reserve center during the 1985-86 campaign and was later a 12th-round selection by the Seattle Seahawks in the 1988 NFL Draft.
The Aztecs-Hornets clash has also been designated as SDSU Faculty/Staff Day with discounted tickets for faculty and staff members. All faculty and staff were emailed with a promotional code for discounted tickets, which are available only in advance online at GoAztecs.com.
Additionally, members of the U.S. Army will be recognized throughout the contest, which will be broadcast on the Aztec Radio Network at 101.5 KGB FM / XTRA 1360 AM and Fox Sports Inland Empire (IE) 1350 AM.
Not to be outdone, the 43rd annual KGB Skyshow will follow after the game's conclusion. The largest fireworks display in San Diego, the KGB Skyshow will be presented in conjunction with an Aztec football game for the 15th consecutive year.
