SAN DIEGO – San Diego State rising sophomore Hannah Broadland competed as a member of Team USA at last weekend's World University Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China, where her team earned bronze medals in the women's eight final.
Team USA's women's eight competed in a preliminary race for lanes on Friday afternoon in Shanghai, where they finished second with a time of 6:40.53, less than four seconds behind leader Great Britain (6:36.75). Canada finished just behind Team USA in the preliminary race with a time of 6:41.95, while Italy (7:07.56) and China (7:31.74) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
In Sunday afternoon's penultimate event, Broadland – who served as the coxswain – and her women's eight team earned bronze with a third place time of 6:22.32. Team USA closely trailed gold medalists Great Britain (6:19.03) and Canada (6:21.56), and finished with a solid margin ahead of Italy (6:37.86) and China (7:16.08).
Broadland and the rest of the Team USA crew recently competed as the Michigan Rowing Association at the USRowing Club National Championships, where they took gold in the women's elite/senior eight final.
