CARY, N.C. - For the third consecutive year, San Diego Sta baseball assistant coach Joe Oliveira will coach Southern California's 14-and-under squad in USA Baseball's National Team Identification Series Champions Cup later this summer from Aug. 22 - 26.
Last season, Oliveira guided the 14U SoCal NTIS squad to a championship, besting the other 15 regions from around the United States. SoCal defeated its in-state counterparts, Northern California, 9-6, to capture the tournament title.
Schedule for USA Baseball's NTIS Championship Cup is still to be released. All games will take place at USA Baseball's National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
The four-day showcase is considered the most comprehensive player identification program offered by Team USA. In addition to the scheduled games, the NTIS features individual skills testing, high-profile guest speaker and professional-style instruction.
Oliveira enters his sixth season with the Aztecs in 2019 and was named the Mountain West Conference's top recruiter in a vote by league head coaches through D1Baseball.com in 2016. Since Oliveira's arrival, SDSU has had a recruiting class ranked 27th or better nationally each year.
San Diego State baseball posted a 39-21 record in 2018, winning its fifth Mountain West Championship in the last six years.
