SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's basketball Head Coach Stacie Terry is pleased to announce the signing of Zayn Dornstauder, a 6' 3" center from Canada. Dornstauder began her college career at the University of San Francisco where she spent two years coming off the bench. She then spent this past year redshirting at Ball State.
"We are thrilled to add Zayn to our program," said Terry. "She has tremendous potential with her combination of strength and athleticism and will add to our depth in the frontcourt."
"I chose San Diego State because I saw it as an excellent opportunity to make an impact on the court," Dornstauder explained. "During my visit I got to meet all the coaches and really liked them, and with the addition of Kevin Morrison as the post coach, I am excited to see how it will expand my game."
In her freshman year (2015-16) at San Francisco, Dornstauder appeared in 17 games, averaging 6.8 minutes per game and 2.1 points. She had two games with a career-high eight points and helped the Dons win the WCC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Dornstauder appeared in five games the following season, totaling five points.
After a change in coaches at USF, Dornstauder transferred to Ball State, where she redshirted during the 2017-18 season. Although, she was unable to play in games, she was a valuable practice player for a team that went 25-7 and made it to the second round of the WNIT.
Dornstauder is a native of Regina, Saskatchewan, where she helped Dr. Martin Leboldus High School go 77-8 overall and win the 2013 provincial 5A championship. She also played four years for Team Saskatchewan on the U15 and U17 squads, where in 2014 she helped the U17 team finish fourth at the Canadian Women's National Championships while leading the tournament in rebounds and finishing second in blocks.
She finished up her successful prep career at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz. where she helped her team go 22-9 and place fifth in the 2015 Arizona D-I state championships.
