San Diego State women's soccer head coach Mike Friesen released today his team's 2018 schedule. The defending Mountain West champions will be in action for the first time on Friday, Aug. 10, for an exhibition and highlighting the schedule are 11 games in which the Aztecs will be the designated home team.
Fans can get their first glimpse of this year's squad on Aug. 10, when the Aztecs play host to Cal State Fullerton in a 7 p.m. PT friendly atop SDSU Sports Deck. The contest is a prelude to the season opener vs. New Mexico State on Aug. 17. Then prior to a four-game road swing, San Diego State will welcome Texas Tech to campus on Aug. 24. Both games will start at 7 p.m. PT.
SDSU will remain in the Golden State when it hits the road with the first trip scheduled for Long Beach State on Aug. 26 (6 p.m. PT). The Bay Area is next on the itinerary with the Aztecs facing California, a 2017 NCAA tournament participant, in Berkeley at 4 p.m. PT on Aug. 31, before they make the 63-mile trek to UC Davis for a 2 p.m. PT game on Sept. 2. The road set will conclude with a cross-town matchup at San Diego on Sept. 7 (7 p.m. PT).
San Diego State will wrap up its non-conference schedule the next week against a pair of schools that hail from Los Angeles County. First will be Pepperdine on Sept. 14, followed by UCLA on Sept. 16. The home games against the two 2017 NCAA tournament teams are set for 4 p.m. PT and 6 p.m. PT, respectively.
SDSU will open Mountain West action on Friday, Sept. 21, in what will be a split home/road week. The Aztecs will face Wyoming at home at 7 p.m. PT, then hop on a Saturday flight to Denver, Colorado, only to drive 75 minutes north to Fort Collins in preparation for a Sunday road date at Colorado State (Sept. 23, noon MT).
The trip to CSU is the start of a three-game road stretch that will take SDSU to San José State and Fresno State the next week. The Aztecs and Spartans will square off on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. PT and then San Diego State will travel south to meet the Bulldogs on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. PT.
Home commitments vs. Utah State on Oct. 5 (7 p.m. PT) and Boise State on Oct. 7 (noon PT) await SDSU before it hits the road one last time in the regular season vs. the league's Silver State institutions. The Aztecs will be in Reno on Oct. 12 to face Nevada at 7 p.m. PT and then will head to Las Vegas to take on UNLV (Oct. 14, 1 p.m. PT).
San Diego State will close the regular season in America's Finest City with three consecutive home games. Colorado College and Air Force are scheduled to visit SDSU Sports Deck on Oct. 19 (7 p.m. PT) and Oct. 21 (noon PT), respectively. New Mexico will be the Aztecs' foe on Senior Night, which is slated for Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. PT.
This season's Mountain West Championship will be hosted by San José State on Oct. 30, Nov. 1 and Nov. 3. The Aztecs have appeared in a conference-record six straight tournament finals and will look to defend their crown in the Bay Area.
San Diego State's 2017 Mountain West championship was its fourth in the last six years and since the 2012 campaign, it has won eight conference titles and appeared in four NCAA tournaments, including last season's invite to the field of 64.
