SAN DIEGO - San Diego State rowing head coach Bill Zack announced today the return of Dan Duxbury to the team's coaching roster. The former Aztec assistant coach returns to the Mesa in the same role he held during his previous stint with the team from 2013-16.

"We are really happy to have Dan Duxbury rejoining the coaching staff," Zack said. "Dan played an instrumental role in helping the team develop into a very competitive American Athletic Conference team during his first stint. After taking time off to earn a master's degree in sports leadership, Dan will definitely be a great asset as the team pursues its first conference championship. Everybody who knows Dan and his abilities as a coach is excited to have him back as an Aztec."

Duxbury returns to SDSU after earning his Master's degree in sports leadership from Northeastern University this summer. Since 2017, Duxbury has served as a high performance camp coach at Chinook Performance Racing, where he was responsible for coaching high performance men's and women's rowing camps, as well as the inclusive 2x of Patricia Walsh (Para-rower) and Jennifer Goldsack (2008 Olympian).

From 2016-18, Duxbury was the Associate Head Coach of the Rio Salado Rowing Club in Tempe, Ariz., where he was primarily responsible for all aspects of the masters/competition team and developed and implemented training plans for athletes ages 19 and up.

Duxbury previously held the role of Assistant Women's Rowing Coach at San Diego State for three seasons (2013-16) and was part of the staff when the team transitioned from Conference USA to its current conference, The American. In addition to assisting Zack in coaching a competitive AAC team, Duxbury served as the team's recruiting coordinator and helped to develop the walk-on program and training of the team's novice rowers.

Prior to his first stint as an Aztec assistant coach, Duxbury served on the coaching staff of the Arizona State University club rowing team from 2012-13. In addition to his duties with the Sun Devils, Duxbury founded the adaptive rowing program at Rio Salado Rowing Club, where he coached masters crews. Prior to Rio Salado, he founded and served as head coach for 11 seasons with the Tempe Junior Crew program, as more than 60 of the rowers he coached went on to row with Division I schools. In addition, Duxbury's tenure at TJC was highlighted by the participation of two of his athletes in the junior women's double at the 2007 World Junior Rowing Championships in Beijing, China.

A native of Worcester, Mass., Duxbury began his rowing career as an undergraduate at Worcester State College, where he rowed for four seasons primarily in the team's top boat, the lightweight four. Duxbury also competed with the Quinsigamond Rowing Association and the Vesper Rowing club during summers off from his collegiate team. Duxbury continued his education at Arizona State, where he received a Bachelor's degree in liberal studies.
