SDSU Names Joe Moeller Associate Athletic Director Of Development

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State executive director of intercollegiate athletics Rick Bay announced today that Joe Moeller has been named associate athletic director of development. As such, Moeller will be responsible for the overall planning and implementation of a comprehensive fund-raising program for the SDSU athletic department, including the volunteer-led Aztec Athletic Foundation.

"We are excited that Joe will be joining the Aztec family as our new associate athletic director of development," Bay said. "He possesses a strong background as a dynamic fund-raiser and will be an important cog in helping take San Diego State Athletics to the next level."

Moeller, 31, comes to Montezuma Mesa from Arizona State University, where he has served as a director of development for the university's $400 million Campaign for Leadership since 1995. While at ASU, Moeller was the chief architect in raising $13 million for a College of Education that had no development program and a $6 million goal in 1995. He also created the Dean's Associates program during his tenure in Tempe, a volunteer advisory board for the college comprised of community, corporate and alumni leaders who lead the development, community relations, nominating and campaign committee activities.

Prior to his term at Arizona State, the West Point, Iowa, native was the director of alumni and development at Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) in Kirksville, Mo. The caretaker of a $380,000 budget, Moeller headed all fund-raising for the university and created the school's first-ever Challenge Campaign, which surpassed its goal by 300 percent while doubling athletic fund-raising in support of the Bulldog fund.

A 1991 graduate of the University of South Dakota, Moeller was co-captain of the Coyotes' men's basketball team and was named to the North Central Conference all-academic team in 1990 and '91 and the all-conference squad in '91. Following graduation, Moeller received his start in university development and fundraising as an annual fund coordinator. Within six months, he was promoted to associate director of development in charge of annual giving programs and the development of the Howling Pack, USD athletic fund-raising program.

In addition to his professional work, Moeller has served as a board member for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Scottsdale Prevention Institute and the Farber fund. An avid sports fan, he also has held several positions as an on-air radio personality and color-commentator for basketball, most recently working as co-host of the popular Roc and Moe Gameday on Phoenix's KDUS (1060 AM), the flagship station of Arizona Cardinals football and Phoenix Coyotes hockey.
