SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State student-athletes and athletic trainers will be outside Cox Arena prior to Saturday's men's basketball game accepting donations, clothes, linens and blankets for needy families. The game against UC San Diego starts at 7:05 p.m.

The money will be used toward gifts for underprivileged families identified by the East County YMCA and the clothes, linens and blankets will go to the Red Cross Fire Relief Fund. Any additional money left over will also be donated to the relief fund.

This year is the second that San Diego State's student-athletes have organized a collection from fans. Last year forward Chris Walton led a food and clothes drive in conjunction with the Arizona game.

The gift drive is a joint collaboration with the University of San Diego's student-athletes and two local YMCAs. USD's student-athletes are inviting their fans to bring new unwrapped toys, which will be donated to the Mission Valley YMCA's Holiday Program, at Wednesday's 7 p.m. game against the Aztecs.
