San Diego State Hires New Development Officer Sept. 20, 2002 SAN DIEGO - Ed White, former San Diego Chargers offensive lineman and member of the College Football Hall of Fame, has been hired as an athletic Development Officer for San Diego State University announced Rick Bay, SDSU Executive Director of Athletics. White's responsibilities include coordinating alumni and community support of Aztec athletics through the Big 64, Big 50 and Big 30 booster clubs, as well as encourage SDSU letterwinner involvement with university-sponsored activities through the Aztec Club. The San Diego native has most recently been serving as executive director of Westward Ho, the Wagons, a non-profit foundation that educates children about the western movement and lives of the early Native Americans. During his 12-year tenure at the foundation he launched, White created, coordinated and directed all projects and fundraising activities. White brings over 30 years of athletic experience to San Diego State, including four years as offensive line coach at SDSU (1994-1998). Prior to his coaching stint with the Aztecs, White was a tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach for the San Diego Chargers. White made a stop in St. Louis to serve as the offensive line coach from 1997 to 1998 before returning to his alma mater, UC Berkeley, to serve as offensive line coach until 2001. As a player, White was a starting offensive guard for the Minnesota Vikings from 1969 to 1978, and starting offensive guard for the Chargers until 1986. A 1969 graduate in landscape architecture from UC Berkeley, he has been inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Champions, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. "I am very excited to be here because I think the coaches are tremendous and the facilities are the best in the west," said White. "This is a very meaningful time to support San Diego State and its athletics and I look forward to getting the community involved in this endeavor." |
