MISSION BAY AQUATIC CENTER - HOME OF AZTEC ROWING
Home Course Advantage

Mission Bay offers 4,000 acres of water to train on and is home to one of the world's largest rowing regattas, the San Diego Crew Classic.

During morning training sessions, the bay is calm and offers long stretches of water that are ideal for year-round practices. Other than the San Diego Crew Classic, the team holds its 2000-meter races on the fully buoyed racecourse at the Elite Athlete Training Center in nearby Chula Vista, Calif.

Mission Bay Aquatic Center

Built in 1974, the Mission Bay Aquatic center opened its doors to the Aztecs in 1998. Located in the beautiful Mission Bay Park, the 24,000 square-foot redwood facility occupies half an acre and features a three-bay rowing center, a dock, locker rooms with showers, a lounge area with fireplace, classrooms, coaches launches, a storage yard, patio and administrative offices.

As a Leadership Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certified Facility, SDSU and the MBAC are committed to fostering a culture of sustainability and protecting the surrounding marine environment. A 41,000-watt solar photovoltaic generating system sits on the MBAC roof, which made the facility the first building in San Diego to generate 100 percent of its electricity from the sun. This system avoids emitting 87,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
