Jenny Bramer is in her second year as San Diego State's executive associate athletic director following a two-and-half-month stint as the department's interim director of athletics. Bramer has been a member of SDSU's athletic department since 2003. Bramer, who was announced as SDSU's executive associate athletic director on July 7, 2015, was named interim director of athletics on Aug. 8, 2016. Under her watch, the football team earned a national ranking for the first time since 1995 and became bowl eligible for the seventh season in a row, and the men's soccer beat the No. 1 team in the nation en route to being nationally ranked for several weeks following the win. As executive associate athletic director prior to becoming interim AD, Bramer oversaw the daily operations of women's soccer, baseball, volleyball, lacrosse, track and field, cross county and water polo. She also supervised the athletic training, sports medicine and information technology departments. Bramer's other areas of responsibility during her time at SDSU include the oversight of six teams (women's basketball, women's golf, rowing, men's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis), while spearheading risk management and gender equity efforts, along with leading the search for many of SDSU's current head coaches. Her other areas of supervision have included strength and conditioning, equipment services, compliance, financial aid and human resources. She has also served as tournament manager for numerous Mountain West and NCAA Championships. On the national level, Bramer was the chair of the NCAA Women's Water Polo committee and served on the Postgraduate Scholarship committee. She has also been appointed to various National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) committees and been on the advisory board for San Diego's branch of Women in Sports and Events (WISE). At San Diego State University, Bramer is highly involved within the campus community, leading the school's Gender and Minority Equity subcommittee, representing SDSU as its Deputy Title IX Coordinator and serving on its Sexual Violence Task Force. She was also a member of the SDSU Staff Awards committee. In addition to her daily tasks, Bramer recently created the Aztecs' health educator position, which introduced the SDSU Wellness initiative, enhanced campus health relationships with various groups at San Diego State, coordinated opportunities for every student-athlete to receive sexual violence prevention training, created an assault policy and a culture to report incidents, and developed an administration internship program. Bramer came to San Diego State in April 2003 as an assistant athletic director for compliance, a title she held until December 2004 before being named an associate athletic director. In February 2007, she received the senior woman administrator designation and has maintained it since. The SWA serves an influential role in the Mountain West Conference structure. In July 2015, she was elevated to executive associate athletic director. Bramer, prior to arriving on Montezuma Mesa, got her start in athletics at her alma mater, the University of Oklahoma. She was a development graduate assistant from August 1997 to June 1998 before assuming student-athlete advisory board advisor duties until August 1999. During that same time period as an advisor, she was also the department's career center coordinator. Bramer was later elevated to OU's assistant director of compliance in August 1999. Following a two-year stint, Bramer was named director of compliance before her career took her to America's Finest City in April 2003. An Omaha, Neb., native, Bramer received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma. She was an All-American high jumper for the Sooners and competed in basketball for one season. Bramer excelled in the classroom as well, receiving OU's NCAA Woman of the Year award, earning Academic All-America honors and receiving the Big 12 Postgraduate Scholarship. Bramer is married to Ken Schiermeyer. The couple has two children, Henry and John, and they live in El Cajon, Calif. |
