Doug Deakin

Doug Deakin begins his 11th season at San Diego State that started as a student-athlete and now as a member of the football staff. This is his third season as the assistant for football operations.

Previously, Deakin served as a graduate assistant coach on defense and special teams.

Deakin was a fan favorite as a walk-on football player with the Aztecs. A quarterback out of high school, Deakin transitioned into a wide receiver while at SDSU.

He played a combined 24 games during the 2009 and 2010 campaigns, playing on special teams and serving as the team's holder on field goals and extra-point attempts

Deakin was one of three captains selected by his teammates prior to his senior season in 2010. Ran 13 yards for a first down off a fake field-goal try in the Aztecs' rout of Utah State and saw in action in SDSU's win over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.

He was awarded the 2008 SDSU President's Award for Highest Standards of Academic and Athletic Excellence.

He garnered SDSU scholar-athlete honors and received academic all-Mountain West distinction in 2009. Deakin was also nominated for the College Football Rudy Awards, which recognizes student-athletes who demostrate excellent character, contribution and commitment as members of their college football teams.

A native of Oak Park, Calif., Deakin received his undergraduate degree in business management from San Diego State in 2010 and his master's degree in education leadership at SDSU in 2014.

Deakin is married to the former Emily Diggins.
